Getting Peace of Mind with A Winter Health Check

Only recently this 1983 #Austin Mini arrived in our Bush Tyres Stoneferry depot for a thorough Winter Health Check.  These FREE Winter Health Checks are designed to give you a complete picture as to the condition of your vehicle. You can then choose to have our skilled technicians conduct the works found giving your peace of mind as you head through the worst of the Winter months.

Modern cars engines with their ECU’s and on-board computers are a million miles away from the simple analogue configuration that you’d find in this 1983 Austin Mini. Originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis for The British Motor Company, the Mini revolutionised car design with its transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive system. At the time all cars were manufactured in such a way that the engine and gearbox faced the direction of forward travel with rear wheel drive. Much of the floor space within the cabin of the car was taken up with the bulge to accommodate the drivetrain.

Engine Mounts

By mounting the engine transversely, space within the cabin was greatly increased as there was no longer any need for a transmission tunnel to the rear wheels. The short wheel base of the Mini and low centre of gravity is where the cars famous handling is born from, in fact even today with BMW‘s modern Mini comparisons are still drawn from how a car handles to that of a Mini.

According to how may left there are just under 2000 Austin Mini’s left running on the UK roads so keeping them running for future generations is all the more important.

Not so Different

When you peel back all of the electronic wizardry of found in all modern cars the basic under-pinning’s are the same as you’ll find in this Austin Mini.

You’ll find serviceable items such as brakes, suspension, exhausts, and tyres, there’ll even be a tech spec detailing how the vehicles wheel alignment should be set up etc. The materials may have changed but the principles remain the same.

The great British Winter for that matter hasn’t really changed either, it could be argued it’s getting milder but depending upon where you live in the country that view changes. However, Winter is inevitable and as a motorist staying safe during the colder January-February months on the road can be daunting. Colder mornings, little sun during the day and dark driving conditions in freezing temperatures is not many people’s idea of fun.

Routine maintenance in the main prevents smaller problems from becoming larger expensive ones. In all of Bush Tyres branches we offer FREE Winter Health Checks for your car. These checks include an inspection of your:
