ADAS Calibration for Mercedes Benz E Class – Endyke Tyres

Article written by Bush Tyres

Endyke Tyres recently had this E Class Mercedes Benz in for ADAS Calibration having had a new windscreen fitted at Fraser Vehicle Repair Centre in Hull. It is important after having an ADAS equipped windscreen replaced that you have the system recalibrated to ensure that the car’s safety systems continue as they should.

What is ADAS Calibration?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which are intelligent, in-car systems designed to improve your driving experience by making it safer for you when in your vehicle. Most new vehicles are fitted with ADAS now, many of which are familiar to all of us:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive high beam
  • Adaptive light control
  • Automatic parking
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Collision avoidance system
  • Intelligent speed adaption
  • …and many more.

ADAS Calibration is the adjustment of the ADAS system’s cameras and sensors to make sure they are working correctly. This calibration, or adjustment, is a complex and precise process, requiring time and trained technicians.

Why do you need ADAS Calibration after having your windscreen replaced?

When you have an ADAS equipped windscreen replaced it is important that you have the system recalibrated to ensure your vehicle safety systems are working as intended. If sensors are disturbed even by the smallest amount, the impact can be enormous, with misinformation causing the system to work incorrectly.

When replacing a windscreen, the technicians will have to disconnect the cameras and sensors. When these are then reconnected, the camera alignment can be compromised, and the placement of the new windscreen may differ slightly. ADAS Calibration is therefore needed to restore all systems to the exact position and condition they were in before the windscreen was replaced.

If this isn’t done correctly, this could have a significant impact on the functionality of a driver assist feature, accurate adjustment is vital to ensuring the safety systems continue as they should.
