Puncture Repair on Stunning Porsche 911

Article written by Bush Tyres Puncture Repair

A Flat Tyre May Not Spell Disaster

Puncture repairs can be carried out in most cases when a tyre becomes damaged from an object stuck in the tyre. The tyre could also be leaking air due to a defective valve, or corrosion which can sometimes cause a leak between the bead of the tyre and the rim of the wheel. Should you have a TPMS warning or if you are having to add air to your tyre more often than normal, it is best to get it inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

Repairing a Punctured Tyre

This customer’s Porsche 911-964 visited our Spalding depot for a routine puncture repair. All of our puncture repairs are carried out to the British Standard BSAU159. This standard ensures all repairs to vehicle tyres in the UK will perform the same way as the tyre was originally designed. These puncture repairs will also last for the remaining life of the tyre.

About the Porsche 911 Carrera 2 “Targa”

This 911-964 Carrera 2 is finished in crisp Carrera White and has a beautiful set of “Fuchs” gloss black wheels with bright chrome barrels. The end of the 1980s saw an increase in popularity for white cars and this one from 1990, for those old enough to remember, could well have come of the set of “Miami Vice” careering around a corner chasing down bad guys!

Known as a “Targa” roof, this style of car is not a full convertible/cabriolet, a large removable glass top is fitted instead. The “Targa top” was first seen on the 1965 Porsche 911. Although the Porsche wasn’t the first vehicle to feature a removable roof panel system. The concept first appeared in 1957 on the limited-production Fiat 1200 “Wonderful” by Vignale. Later, the Triumph TR4 from 1961 also adopted a similar system, known here as a surrey top.

The Targa style roof gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s due to concerns the Department of Transportation (DOT) in the United States planned to ban convertibles for safety reasons. The name “Targa” was taken from the Targa Florio, a road race in Sicily where Porsche had achieved success.

Targa means “plate” or “placard” in Italian. In 1996 we saw the debut of a new style retractable glass roof on the Porsche 993. This new style Targa roof has continued in every model of 911 from the 993 all the way to the latest 992 variant.

If your car tyre has a puncture, you should fit the spare wheel as soon as you see the problem. Driving on a tyre with a puncture will potentially damage the tyre beyond repair. If you don’t have a spare tyre or are unable to fit the spare wheel yourself, try to inflate the tyre enough to be able to safely drive to your nearest Bush tyres branch were we can cost effectively make the puncture repair.

Avoid inflating the tyre multiple times when you have a slow puncture. If you leave it too long the sidewall of the tyre may become weaker which could even cause the tyre to fail or blow out. If you can’t drive your car or get enough air in the tyre to drive it safely, you can call our mobile fitting service. Our tyre technicians will then come to you and repair your tyre.
