Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 wins braking distance test at Europe’s largest summer tyre test conducted by automobile magazine Auto Bild

Extensive Auto Bild tests to compare summer tyres identifies 20 finalists based on combined wet and dry braking distance.

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, 20th February 2023 – The Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 has taken first place in the first part of the 2023 summer tyre tests carried out by Auto Bild magazine. The trade magazine selected 50 different UHP summer tyre brands with 225/45R18 tyre sizes and speed index Y (up to 300 km/h) so that they could find the best ones for the upcoming summer season. Only the top 20 performers in terms of braking performance on wet and dry roads will be able to look forward to a position on the starting grid for the second round of testing.

Auto Bild believes that the combined wet/dry braking distance is the decisive safety factor when making recommendations about which tyres to purchase. With an excellent dry braking distance at 100 km/h of 33.3 metres, and a wet braking distance at 80 km/h of just 24.8 metres, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 came out top compared to all other brands in this category, which is specifically significant when it comes to safety.

In the next round 20 best tyres in the braking discipline will compete against each other in other tests including handling, aquaplaning and mileage. The differences in the Auto Bild brake test are sometimes significant. Compared to the other tyre brands being tested, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 comes to a stop within 15.5 metres – or a good three car lengths sooner – on wet roads.

For premium tyre manufacturer Hankook, the results of the Auto Bild brake test are evidence that their expertise and use of high-quality materials, such as those used in the Ventus S1 evo 3, are valuable to consumers. After all, in extreme cases, they help to prevent accidents.
